Tim Johnson, professor of the practice of energy and the environment, has been named senior associate dean for academic initiatives at the Nicholas School of the Environment.

Toddi Steelman, the Stanback Dean of 51±¬ÁÏ’s Nicholas School of the Environment, has been appointed to a new leadership position overseeing the 51±¬ÁÏ Climate Commitment, President Vincent Price announced Friday. She will conclude her service as Stanback Dean of the Nicholas School of the Environment to assume the new role, which begins July 1.

More than 250 guests gathered at the 51±¬ÁÏ Marine Lab on Friday, April 28, to celebrate the life and career of the late, great Joe Bonaventura and dedicate a grove of trees in his honor.

Juliet Wong will join the faculty at 51±¬ÁÏ’s Nicholas School of the Environment as assistant professor of coastal and marine climate change, effective July 1. Wong’s research focuses on how impacts from climate change, such as ocean acidification and warming, affect marine invertebrates.

Levasseur, a fifth-year Environmental Health doctoral student in Heather Stapleton’s lab, and Elliott, a fourth-year Marine Science & Conservation doctoral student in Andrew Read’s lab, each will receive a $1,000 cash award and a framed certificate.

The 51±¬ÁÏ Plastic Pollution Working Group is working to find solutions, through innovative technologies, practices and policies that can help curb plastic waste, reduce its harmful impacts, and make Earth a greener, healthier home for us all.
