What factors were most important in your decision to choose the Nicholas School for your graduate studies? And, how will your time at the Nicholas School help you reach your career aspirations?

The generous financial support that the Nicholas Scholar program provides was a key factor in my decision to attend the Nicholas School, as it was a notable portion of the overall investment in my education. It opened the means for attending graduate school to be financially possible. Additionally, having come from an educational and professional background outside of the environmental field, the recognition given by the school solidified my confidence that I would be able to successfully achieve my goals through the program.

Beyond the Nicholas Scholar program, I found the robust alumni network to be impactful in my decision. Every Nicholas School alumnus that I spoke to during my period of research was extraordinarily thoughtful and eager to share advice. They spoke highly of their classmates, the school faculty, and career center staff, which showed me that I would be surrounded by people who are passionate, eager, and supportive. Each alumnus also spoke of the wide variety of opportunity for hands-on experience that the Nicholas School offers, another important factor for me as I work toward a career pivot into a new field.

During my time at the Nicholas School, I aim to learn how to build business strategies that minimize environmental impact and help companies make more informed decisions regarding their resource usage. The Business & Environment concentration will help me shape a well-rounded perspective grounded in both data-driven environmental considerations and realistic business needs, while the Energy & Environment concentration builds a thorough understanding of the energy system and its applications, including corporation building use. I plan to take part in student clubs at the Nicholas School that provide opportunities to work on client-based projects to gain experience in helping companies measure the impact of their business strategies and forming recommendations for adjustments to those strategies to better serve our environment.
