Adrian's research explores the interactions between algae and their associated microbiomes to enhance biomass production and understand the ecological dynamics of these communities in open ponds. His primary areas of interest include:

  • Microbiome Ecology: Investigating the variability and core composition of microbial communities in Nannochloropsis oceanica cultures under different inorganic carbon conditions.

  • Host-Microbiome Interactions: Analyzing gene expression profiles of both algae and bacteria to determine functional relationships and potential metabolic exchanges.

  • Bioinformatics & Computational Genomics: Employing transcriptomics, metagenomics, and gene coexpression analysis to study host-microbiome interactions.

  • Applied Algal Biotechnology: Exploring the potential of microbial consortia to improve algal productivity for biofuel and bioproduct applications.
