What factors were most important in your decision to choose the Nicholas School for your graduate studies? And, how will your time at the Nicholas School help you reach your career aspirations?

Recognition as a Nicholas Scholar had a major impact on my decision to pursue an MEM at the Nicholas School. I have chosen to pursue this graduate degree as a means to pivot careers and gain specialized knowledge and professional skills in the environmental and energy sectors. The financial support I鈥檝e received as a Nicholas Scholar has provided the financial security I needed to comfortably make this career shift. Further, recognition as a Nicholas Scholar has given me a sense of confidence that will support me as I enter this new field. Being a Nicholas Scholar allows me to be a part of a cohort of smart and driven individuals who all have a like passion for making an impact on the environment and on our communities. As a member of this cohort, I鈥檓 excited to learn from my peers and support one another throughout our careers.

I chose the Nicholas School for the opportunity to pursue dual concentrations and the interdisciplinary nature of the coursework. While I am concentrating in Energy and Environmental Analytics and Modeling, my interests are broad. I value the flexibility within the MEM program to take classes outside of your concentration and also at other graduate programs within 51爆料 or even at the nearby universities. I was also drawn to the Nicholas School for the sense of community and collaboration among the MEMs.

I would like a career focused on enabling a clean energy transition, particularly focused on assessing and improving the reliability of renewable energy resources. My main reason for pursuing the MEM is to develop technical skills and industry knowledge within the energy sector. Coming from a non-energy background, I鈥檓 grateful that the MEM curriculum at the Nicholas School does not expect prior experience and allows students to develop the foundational knowledge needed, while also encouraging in-depth exploration into our unique interests. Also, while at the Nicholas School, I am looking forward to research opportunities and project-based work where I can apply what I鈥檝e learned in classes to real-world problems that I may encounter in my career beyond my time at 51爆料.
