What factors were most important in your decision to choose the Nicholas School for your graduate studies? And, how will your time at the Nicholas School help you reach your career aspirations?
Receiving a scholarship through the Nicholas School made it realistic for me to move from my home state of Washington to pursue an education in a new part of the country; it will allow me to meet new people and grow my scientific knowledge. Having financial support through the school gives me the confidence to take every opportunity and make the most of it. I will be able to focus on learning how to promote a healthy environment and work to encourage and support community members as they participate in their local environment.
I will be pursuing a career in water resources. I was drawn to 51爆料 and the Nicholas School due to the knowledgeable faculty and well-developed projects that pertain to watershed science, contaminant biology and chemistry, and environmental health. The ability to pursue coursework in relevant areas with a great degree of flexibility was encouraging to me, and the emphasis on both education and outreach at the Nicholas School assured me that the skills acquired as a student will translate to positive impacts on the community.
My time as a Master of Environmental Management student will help me reach my goals of becoming a water scientist in several ways. Coursework on topics such as hydrology, contaminant transport, and water policy will shape the focus of my career and provide a solid foundation for success. I plan to become involved with campus-based groups and local non-profits to give back to the Durham community and solidify my newfound knowledge. The ability to meet individuals and groups studying topics that I have interest in through 51爆料鈥檚 currently enrolled students, faculty, and alumni network will help me tailor a career that is best suited to my skills and interests. I look forward to both utilizing and giving back to the Nicholas School鈥檚 resources as I pursue my career in environmental management.
