What factors were most important in your decision to choose the Nicholas School for your graduate studies? And, how will your time at the Nicholas School help you reach your career aspirations?

I am deeply honored to be selected as a Nicholas Scholar. The many advantages that come with being a Nicholas Scholar, such as the financial support, the Nicholas Scholars alumni network, and the recognition, has definitely helped to reinforce my decision to study at the Nicholas School.

Beyond the Nicholas Scholar recognition, I chose the Nicholas School for my graduate studies because of many other reasons. One of it is the interdisciplinary and holistic curriculum. The unique dual-concentration structure allows me to build business management skills which are versatile and applicable in various corporate setting, while rooting my knowledge in a specific environmental field (in my case, energy). The MEM also has a good proportion of electives which I can use to explore courses outside of my concentrations.

I was also drawn to the program’s emphasis on experiential learning opportunities, such as the Master's Project and summer internship. This aligns with my belief that practical applications are instrumental to bridging the gap between theory and practice. Moreover, as someone who is still in my early career and exploring career paths, I highly value any opportunity that would give me real life experience and a chance to explore different work positions.

Besides the work opportunities, the Nicholas School also provides a wealth of resources that supports students’ career development. I was excited to learn that the Nicholas School has its dedicated Career and Professional Development Center (CPDC), which provides career guidance and information on job openings and networking opportunities.

I believe that the MEM program is a good fit for me as the curriculum equips me with a good mix of technical and transferrable skillsets, while the outside-of-classroom opportunities provide lots of room for exploration. I am excited to see what I’ll be able to learn and takeaway from the school.
